Dal Locke's report:
Today, Dal, Doug, Tom, John and Mike headed south on the White Rock Lake trail
from Hillcrest and 635 to our final destination, THE Goat club. Had a good ride down
and chatted again with the "Free advice guy". He is still all fired up about the bikes.
He is a very cool guy. We headed over to the Goat club to charge up the bikes and
ourselves. I have to tell you I think we were all a little reluctant to go in there. We
locked up the bikes and I then creaked the door open a little to have a look inside.
We had no idea what to expect. . . . . I have to say it was not bad at all. Its a dive but
also a pretty cool joint. Does not look very good at all from the street but inside its
not too shabby. They have live music almost every night and we WILL be back. In
fact, I told the bartender lady that she most definitely would see us again.
They have a plug over by the band stage and a pizza place next door. Tom went
over and ordered a pizza and brought it back while we sipped on some cold ones.
The beers were $2 draft and bottles. Not bad at all.
There was a jukebox that was cranking out all of Doug's favorite songs and we really
had a good time. There was one small TV and a pool table with video games. And
yes indeed, there was a picture of a beloved goat on the wall.
So we headed back to the cars prematurely. John's battery gave out a Royal and
Doug towed him in again. I did some off roding tricks that I should not have done
and one of my batteries literally "flew" out of the basket and hit the grass. Tom was
behind me and said, "There goes your battery Dal!". I could not believe it. Ripped
the equalizer wires right out of the connector. Luckily those were not on the hot end or
we would have seen a fusing electric light show. I plugged it back in and it was a
miracle that it worked fine. I think I learned a lesson to not get in the grass again
where all the pot holes are.
Another near tradgedy happened when Tom's batteries gave out and he was
pushing his bike up a hill. The handle bar snapped off into his hands. Earlier we
were going 30mph down a hill just outside the Goat club. Tom would be in the ICU
right now if that had come loose at that time. Tom was thanking his lucky stars. Tom
called a friend that does metal work and he was able to weld it back up the same
day on a Sunday. Amazing stuff.
Looking forward to the next ride. The weather looks good this weekend again.
