Dal Locke's report:
We started out on the ride in the parking lot of PF Chang's at Bethany and US 75
in Allen. Before Doug arrived, I took in and enjoyed the live Mariachi band that was
playing in the center park like area. They were very good but I bet they were burning
up because they were all dressed in those thick black uniforms. This is a real nice
area with new restaurants like Brio and Cheesecake factory along with other smaller
ones and all kinds of shops.
So we headed out north on the trail and it was shaded most of the way which was
good because it was another scorching hot summer day in Texas.. It reminded me
of the time my family and I took some electric scooters with a picnic lunch last year
on this trail. The kids love it because there are many parks along the way with
playgrounds to stop and explore. This trail is also nice because there are no roads
to cross because it follows a creek and the trail goes under the overpasses.
We went north about 5 miles until it dead ended. Then we headed west hoping to
link in with the other Rowlett creek trail that heads back south. Luckily I had a map
and we did end up finding it. We headed back south and Doug mentioned that one
of his customers lived down the street from where we were. We decided to pop in
and he (Paul) was nice enough to offer us to come in and have a drink and cool off.
We talked for awhile and then headed out south again on the Trail.
Turns out we went too far south and got lost for a bit because there was a creek
and not many ways to cross. Anyway, we found a way back finally and then Doug's
batteries gave out due to the detour. It was hot and Doug was pedalling uphill. I
looked back and Doug was huffing and sweating pretty good. We tied our belts
together and I towed him the last mile. Doug has a 36V 10ah battery but it was not
fully charged when we left.
We were hungry and thristy so we went in the PF Chang's and had lunch. We
were all red, hot and sweaty so they put us in the VERY back of the place. Oh well,
we finally got some water and slowly cooled off and had a nice lunch. Looking
forward to the next ride. Maybe we should have the next ride late in the day when its
not so hot. See the ride pictures in the photo link.
